Between January 2005 and February of 2007, I (Becky) made several trips to Gombe State, Nigeria. I was part of a team of translation consultants and linguists who were coming along side of community members from 9 language communities in Gombe State. They were eager to make progress toward translating the Bible into their languages. Our  goal was to see them translate the Gospel of Luke and then adapt the translation to the script of the Jesus Film. Many of the groups went on to receive ongoing training and are working toward translations of other parts of the Bible.

Primarily I worked with the speakers of the Pipero language to test the writing system, help them check the translations for accuracy and clarity, and to encourage them in their task of making God’s word available to their own people.

On October 18, 2008, all 9 language groups held a dedication and celebration service. Though I was not able to attend, I was very grateful to hear of each language communities involvement and support for the work.
