We both spent a week in Panama City meeting with colleagues from all over the Americas. The week focused on leadership development and professional development planning for the many Bible translation personnel who attended. And then were able to take a few days to rest while in the tropics.
November was a challenging month. We had about two weeks at home in Dallas before Hugh flew off to Mexico. Becky left the same day for NC to meet with her supervisor located at the Waxhaw center to map out plans for the coming year and to establish a budget for upcoming professional development activities.
Hugh was heavily involved with the Me’phaa Language Documentation project in Tlapa, Mexico. We were both be in southern Mexico for this project through January 7th. See p. 2 for more details.
Becky took a month long intensive course at the Graduate Institute of Applied Linguistics (Dallas). It was a struggle to balance the class requirements along with her work.
SIL Americas Area Staff meetings in Dallas. During the meetings (Feb 8-11), Becky will be sharing the new Professional Development Initiative with over 100 of our staff. Many hours of work have gone into the preparation. Please pray that ideas are well received and new ideas are hatched as we have time for discussion as to how to best serve the 500+ Bible translation staff in the Americas.
From Feb 27 through Apr 27, we will both be in back in Mexico.
We should hear sometime in February if SIL would like us to serve on staff at the University of North Dakota training program. Pray with us for wisdom regarding taking the position.
